Profibus是联邦德国于九十年代初制定的国家工业现场总线协议标准，代号DIN19245，由十三家工业企业及五家研究所经过两年多 的时间完成。1996年经欧洲电工委员会批准被列为欧洲标准EN50170。根据欧洲标准化规则，EN50170于当年自动地在法律上得到欧洲所有国家标 准化机构的认可。德国注销了原有的PROFIBUS国家标准DIN19245，以EN50170取而代之。从现在起，欧洲所有公开的招标都是在 EN50170的基础上进行的.EN50170在保护投资方面为生产厂家和用户提供了一个最高的标准。 PROFIBUS 提供一个从传感器直至管理层的透明网络。


正因为如此，PROFIBUS 可以在许多方面——从汽车工业、机器制造业、食品工业、运输业直到环保工程等，获得应用。近年来，PROFIBUS在众多的现场总线中占据首位，并以其约 占40%的市场份额居欧洲之冠.作为开放式通信系统工业标准，PROFIBUS现场总线公布了网络各层协议的所有规范。按照这些规范设计设备网络接口，不 同的设备可以实现网络互联。这给控制设备的生产厂家、系统设计安装调试单位和用户带来了极大的方便。用户可根据需要选择不同的设备，构成相应的系统，以减 少设备的冗余度，降低成本，也为以后系统的扩充提供了方便。Profibus现场总线技术的特点?PROFIBUS为多主多从结构，可方便地构成集中式、 集散式和分布式控制系统。网络协议以 ISO/OSI参考模型为基础，对第三层到第六层进行了简化。
